About

I'm Robert Krten, an embedded systems consultant based in Kanata, Ontario, Canada, with over 45 years of experience spanning medical devices, telecoms, security, and realtime control systems. I hold 8 granted US patents, and I'm the author of Getting Started with QNX Neutrino and The QNX Cookbook, along with the Iron Krten Bench and HEXBUS book series.

I work as a consultant because I like solving genuinely open-ended problems — "can this go faster?", "is X even possible?" — more than I like commodity work. See a curated set of interesting contracts I've worked on, the full resume for the complete history, or connect on LinkedIn.

This site otherwise documents the projects I tinker with between contracts: hardware restorations, emulators, and microcontroller builds, and occasional articles.
